IMPORTANT: Please make sure to install the sensor with the sensor holes (found on the bottom part of the sensor) facing down. Failure to do so will result in inaccurate readings.
This is the digital setup instructions for the Red Series Smart 4-1 Sensor on the Hubitat platform.
Navigating the Instructions
Please click on any of the sections in the Table of Contents to get started. We recommend working your way down as it follows an intentional flow that is user friendly and hub/gateway specific.
Quick Setup Instructions
Follow these if you have already installed the smart sensor before and are just looking for some quick pairing instructions. If this is your first time installing the smart bulb, please skip this section and work your way through the various sections below starting with the Prerequisites.
This section assumes the following:
You’ve installed the Device Driver
Let’s begin:
Open up your Hubitat Web App and click on the, “Devices” tab
Click, “Add Device”
Then under, "Add device manually:", click on, "Z-Wave"
Click on, "Start Z-Wave Inclusion"
Press the Sensor Button (B) on the back of the sensor one time
The LED Indicator (A) on the front should blink red rapidly indicating it's in inclusion mode - it will turn solid red to indicate it was included successfully as shown in the Video Demonstration below
Hubitat should then search for, find and let you know that a device was added
Feel free to label the device and, if applicable, add it to a room
If you run into issues where your sensor is not including, you may have to try an exclusion process. To exclude your sensor, start the exclusion process on your hub and then press the sensor button (B) one (1) time. The LED Indicator will flash red one time and if successful the LED Indicator will rapidly blink red and then turn off. Please see the Video Demonstration for a visual. If you continue to have issues after an exclusion, you may have to move the sensor closer to the hub.
Prerequisites
The only prerequisite to pairing this bulb is the following:
Installation of the Device Driver
While this sensor will also pair without it, for full functionality, you’ll want to install the Device Driver.
Device Driver Installation
To install the Device Driver, please follow the instructions below:
Open up your Hubitat web app and click on, "Drivers Code" in the menu (you may have to click on, "Advanced" if you don't see this option)
Click on, "+ New Driver"
Click on, "Import" and a box should appear that says, "Import Code from Website" and it will ask you for a URL
Paste the following URL (https://raw.githubusercontent.com/InovelliUSA/Hubitat/master/Drivers/inovelli-4-in-1-sensor.src/inovelli-4-in-1-sensor.groovy) into the section titled, "Insert URL to Import Text into Code Editor" and click, "Import" (followed by, "OK" when asked if you want to override the text in the editor)
Click, "Save"
Now when you pair your sensor, it should automatically pick up the Device Driver. Feel free to move onto the next section of the Setup Instructions below.
Installing the Sensor
REMINDER: Regardless of how you install your sensor (permanent or temporary) please make sure to install the sensor with the sensor holes (found on the bottom part of the sensor) facing down. Failure to do so will result in inaccurate readings.
MICRO-USB: You may forgo the battery and use a micro-usb (not included). Please use a standard 12V adapter.
Permanent Installation
If you’d prefer a permanent solution, please use the included screws to mount to a wall (use drywall anchors (included) if mounting in drywall). Please note that the Base (E) should be unscrewed first to make it easier to drill the screws into the wall and ensure that the sensor holes (F) are pointed at the floor.
Temporary Installation
If you’d prefer a temporary solution, please use the included adhesive tape (to install, please clean the surface of the area you’re mounting to, put the adhesive on the Base (E) and then mount on the wall, holding down for 30 seconds) and ensure that the sensor holes (F) are pointed down at the floor.
Pairing Instructions
The below instructions assume you have installed the Device Driver prior to pairing. Please follow the instructions below to include/pair your Red Series Smart 4-1 Sensor.
Open your Hubitat Web App and go to the, "Devices" tab
Press the (+ Add Device) button at the top right of the screen
Under, "Add device manually:", click on, “Z-Wave”
Click on, "Start Z-Wave Inclusion"
While your Hubitat hub is scanning, press the Sensor Button (B) on the back 1x. The LED Indicator (A) on the front should blink red rapidly indicating it's in inclusion mode - it will turn solid red to indicate it was included successfully as shown below
Hubitat will then continue to search for your Inovelli sensor and, if successful, will let you know that the device was found and ultimately added
You can change the name of your bulb by clicking where it says, "Label this device" and then clicking, "Save"
To view your device and change any of the parameters, click on, "View device details"
Once your sensor is successfully paired, check to make sure you have basic functionality of it by walking in front of it. The LED Indicator should blink red indicating that the sensor detects motion.
Advanced Feature Setup
Below we will provide a link to all the parameters and show you how to change them from within Hubitat and then we'll go into some of the advanced features and explain how to set them up in Hubitat.
Parameter Explanations
You will need to install a Device Driver prior to accessing any of these features from within the app. Instructions can be found here: Device Driver Installation
A parameter is a setting within the bulb firmware that allows you to change how the bulb operates.
To find all the parameters, please follow these steps:
Open your Hubitat Web App and go to the, "Devices" tab
Find your Red Series Smart 4-1 Sensor and click on it
Scroll down to where it says, "Preferences" - here is where all the parameters are listed out and can be changed via the drop-downs
For a list of the most up-to-date parameters and the firmware version they are associated with, please visit the Red Series Smart 4-1 Sensor Parameter Page
Z-Wave Associations
Z-Wave Associations is when two or more Z-Wave products communicate directly with one another without the need to communicate with a hub. There are two main benefits of utilizing Z-Wave Associations: speed & local control.
From a speed standpoint, cutting out the middle-man (hub) can save precious milliseconds or even seconds depending on your cloud and/or processing power off your hub. Whereas from a local control standpoint, if your hub goes does down and cannot communicate, your products can still talk to each other.
To setup Z-Wave Associations with your Hubitat Hub, please see this article: Setting Up Z-Wave Associations • Hubitat
