Inovelli mmWave Presence Sensing Dimmer • Sleep Time Or Micro Movement Help

You’ve come across one of the trickier scenarios for any presence sensor to detect—small detection areas, minimal movement, and situations where a person may be covered (such as with blankets). Here are a few recommendations to improve accuracy

Detecting Small or Low-Movement Presence (Tips & Recommended Settings)

1. Increase Sensor Sensitivity

Set the sensor sensitivity to High so the device can better detect micro-movements like breathing.

2. Adjust “Stay Life” and “Hold Time”

These two settings work together to help the sensor maintain an occupied state when movement is very subtle.

Recommended starting values for bedtime or low-movement periods:

  • Stay Life: 18,000–36,000 seconds (≈ 15–30 minutes)

  • Detection Timeout / Hold Time: 120–240 seconds

What these settings do:

  • Stay Life helps the sensor remain in an "occupied" state longer when micro-movements temporarily disappear (e.g., someone stops shifting under blankets).

  • Hold Time is better for situations with normal movement—it keeps the room occupied for a short period after motion stops.

3. Optional: Use Automations for Day vs. Night

Because ideal settings differ between daytime activity and nighttime rest, you may want to create an automation that:

  • Increases sensitivity + extends Stay Life / Hold Time during bedtime, and

  • Returns to standard settings during the day.

This approach allows the sensor to perform optimally for each scenario.
