Please follow the directions below to update your Red Series devices using PC Controller by Silicon Labs. You can download the file here:
https://files.inovelli.com/firmware/tools/ZWavePCController_v5_39.zip

In order to run PC Controller, you will need a Windows based computer. If you have a Mac, you can use Parallels or another program to run Windows.

  1. Open up Z-Wave PC Controller on your Windows computer (or you can use Parallels on your Mac) and click on the gear icon at the top right

  2. Click on your Z-Wave Controller that shows up and then click on, "OK". If nothing is showing up, click on, "Detect"

  3. Click where it says, "Included Nodes"

  4. Click on, "Add" and follow the instructions to pair your Inovelli device (instructions can be found here: How to Pair (Include), Remove (Exclude) or Factory Reset Your Inovelli Devices)

  5. There may be a pop-up asking what security you'd like to add the device in. If you don't want to add any security, then click, "Cancel". If you do want to add security, then click, "OK" and enter in the 5 digit DSK value located on the front of your switch

  6. Click on the firmware updater icon (upward arrow) located on the left side of the screen

  7. Make sure your Inovelli device is highlighted and then click on, "Get"

  8. You should now see the firmware version your device is on -- in this case, the switch has firmware version 1.35 installed on it

  9. Open up a new tab and go to our GitHub Firmware repository: https://github.com/InovelliUSA/Firmware

  10. Locate the proper firmware for your device. In this case, we'll be updating a Black Series Dimmer Switch (LZW31) so we'll go into the Black Series folder, click on the Z-Wave folder, click on LZW31-Dimmer-Switch and go into the latest firmware folder.

  11. Right click on the firmware, click on, "Save Link As..." and save the file to your PC/Mac - to understand which files you'll want to download, please see the following article: Firmware File Locations & Targets. On that page, go to the section titled, "Inovelli Device Firmware File & Target Table", search for your device and look at the column titled, "Extensions" (shown in the second picture below).

In this example, since we're upgrading the Black Series Dimmer Switch, you'll see that you'll need an .otz and .bin file (NOTE: If there are two files, always start with the one on top -- in this case it's an .otz file)

  12. Go back to the PC Controller app, click on the folder icon, search for your firmware file and click on it.

  13. Click on the proper target under, "Firmware Targets" and click, "Update".

NOTE: To understand which target to select, you can go back to the article table referenced earlier in Step 11 (Firmware File Locations & Targets) and look in the target column. In this case, you can see that the .otz file belongs in Target 0 as shown in the second picture below (whereas the .bin file belongs in Target 1).

  14. Let your device update and if you need to update a second file, go ahead and do it. In our case, we have to also update a .bin file on Target 1, so we'll repeat Step 13, but this time, we'll select the .bin file and set it to Target 1.

  15. After your firmware has updated, your device may reboot. Go ahead and try turning it on and off locally (at the switch) to make sure it works properly
