IMPORTANT: Before installing your fan switch, please ensure the fan motor is set to high speed. If you notice that after you install your fan switch the speeds are not as fast as they were prior to installing your switch, it's likely that the motor was not on high (please adjust if you find this is the case).

In addition, if you have your switch controlling two fans, then the low and medium speeds will be half of what they were before.

Finally, if you are using this without a neutral wire, then you will only have low and medium speeds available.

REMINDER: This switch is only to be used to control AC Motor exhaust and ceiling fans. Do not use the switches on any sort of lighting load or DC Motor.

NOTICE: If you're having trouble pairing, please ensure the following:

  • Matter Devices and Controllers Must Be on the Same L2 Network

  • VLAN Use Requires Matter Controller/Server to operate on that VLAN

  • IPv6 Networking is Required for Matter Networks. Link-Local Addresses Are Allowed, Look for a Setting in your Router Called “Enable IPv6.” (Note: This does not require you to configure the IPv6 connection for your entire network)

Setup Instructions Overview

This is the digital manual for the White Series Smart Fan Switch on the SmartThings platform.

Navigating the Instructions

Please click on any of the sections in the Table of Contents to get started. We recommend working your way down as it follows an intentional flow that is user friendly and hub/gateway specific. As always, any questions, please see the Additional Resources links section or submit a ticket, we’re happy to help.

Quick Setup & Pairing

This section assumes you have your switch wired correctly, the blue LED bar is lit up and you are ready to pair your switch. If you have not wired it and tested to see if it works locally, please visit the Wiring Instructions section first.

  4. Next, click on, "Matter"

  5. Scan the QR Code on your switch (located at the bottom left) or the QR Code on the back of your package

  6. SmartThings will then search for and add your device (NOTE: If your LED Bar is not automatically pulsing as shown in Video #1, please tap the favorites button 3x as shown in Video #2) - if pairing is successful, the LED Bar will flash green and if unsuccessful, the LED Bar will flash red. If it flashes red, please see Video #3 below to factory reset your device and start this process over

  7. Feel free to change the name and/or change rooms, then click, "Done"

Video Demonstration

NOTE: Your switch will start to pulse blue as soon as you restore power to it. If it isn't pulsing, please follow the video underneath this one.

If you switch isn't pulsing blue, then please follow this video to start the pairing process

Factory Resetting

To reset your switch, hold down on the top of the paddle (on) and the config/favorites button simultaneously for 20 seconds until the LED Bar (D) turns green, yellow, then red. It will blink cyan, green(non-neutral) or yellow (neutral), and then blue confirms the switch has been reset as shown in the video below.

E. Air Gap: This can be pulled out to cut power to the load and is there for safety purposes.

* The Edge Driver must be installed to support these features.

Prerequisites

The only prerequisite to pairing this switch is the following:

  • Installation of the Device Edge Driver

While this switch will also pair without it, for full functionality, you’ll want to install the Edge Driver.

Device Edge Driver Installation

To install the Edge Driver, please follow the instructions below:

  1. Click on the following link Samsung Edge Driver Access and sign into your Samsung account (you may have 2-Factor Authentication on – if so, please follow the directions Samsung gives you to attain a code)

  2. Next, click, “Enroll” by the hub your devices are paired to

  3. Next, click, “Available Drivers”

  4. Finally, click on the driver you’d like installed by clicking, “Install” (NOTE: In this case, please install, “Inovelli White Series”)

Now when you pair your switch, it should automatically pick up the Edge Driver. Feel free to move onto the next section of the Setup Instructions below.

Installation Instructions

Before setting up your switch within the SmartThings app, you will have to manually install your switch in the wall and have it powered up. In order to do that, you (or your licensed electrician) will need to follow our Wiring Instructions which can be found below:

IMPORTANT: Before installing your fan switch, please ensure the fan motor is set to high speed. If you notice that after you install your fan switch the speeds are not as fast as they were prior to installing your switch, it's likely that the motor was not on high (please adjust if you find this is the case).

In addition, if you have your switch controlling two fans, then the low and medium speeds will be half of what they were before.

Finally, if you are using this without a neutral wire, then you will only have low and medium speeds available.

Pairing Instructions

Please follow the instructions below to include/pair your White Series Fan Switch

  1. Open your SmartThings App and click on the, "Devices" tab at the bottom

  2. Click on the, "+" button at the top

  3. Click on, "Add device"

  4. In the section titled, "Partner devices", click on, "Add"

  5. Find and click on, "Matter"

  6. Scan the QR Code at the bottom-left of your switch (or on the back of the device box)

  7. Once SmartThings starts the pairing process (the screen will say, "Getting everything ready"), your switch should automatically start the pairing process and the LED Bar should start to pulse blue as shown in Video #1. If the LED Bar doesn't automatically start to pulse blue tap on the favorites button three times as shown in Video #2 below.

Video #1: Switch Pulsing Blue after QR Code is scanned

Video #2: Pressing the favorites button 3x

  8. SmartThings will then connect to the device, check for a Thread network and register your device.

NOTICE: If you're having trouble pairing, please ensure the following:

    • Matter Devices and Controllers Must Be on the Same L2 Network

    • VLAN Use Requires Matter Controller/Server to operate on that VLAN

    • Make sure your SmartThings app and your Samsung/SmartThings Border Router firmware is up-to-date

    • IPv6 Networking is Required for Matter Networks. Link-Local Addresses Are Allowed, Look for a Setting in your Router Called “Enable IPv6.” (Note: This does not require you to configure the IPv6 connection for your entire network)

  9. Once your device is connected successfully, the LED Bar on your switch will flash green (if unsuccessful, it will flash red) and you will see a screen that says, "Success!". Feel free to change the name of the device and/or change the room where the device is located. Then click, "Done" at the bottom.

  10. Back on your, "Devices" page, you should see your device (there will be two of them). The device with the fan icon will be how you control your fan speed and change the settings, whereas the device with the bulb icon is what you'll use to create notifications. If you'd prefer not to see this device, you can move it to a different room (e.g., Notification Room).

Feel free to click into the device with the fan icon and test out whether or not the device turns on and off or changes fan speeds.

NOTE: By default the switch is setup as a Ceiling Fan switch so it cycle speeds (Low, Medium, High). If you'd like to change your switch to turn on/off an exhaust fan (without lights) or have it wired in a multi-way scenario, then please move to the Switch Configuration section below.

Switch Configuration

In this section, we will help you change your switch mode (ie: Ceiling Fan or On/Off) and type (Single-Pole or 3-Way Aux). Please note that if you are trying to control an Exhaust Fan, the motor has to be an AC Motor and there cannot be any lights on the fan unless they are controlled by a separate switch as this switch is not rated for lighting.

If you are trying to setup your switch in Smart Fan Mode, please still select the Switch Mode and Type from the below instructions, and then follow the directions to setup Smart Bulb Mode

Switch Mode (On/Off or Ceiling Fan and Multi-Way Settings)

To change your White Series Fan switch from a Ceiling Fan Switch to an On/Off or vice versa as well as set your multi-way settings (ie: single-pole, multi-way w/aux switch) in SmartThings, please follow the instructions below:

Before we do so, please take note of the various settings and refer to them when you reach Step #4.

  • Exhaust (On/Off) + Single = Your switch will act as a simulated on/off switch (to control AC Motors w/out lights only) and is installed in a single-pole setting (ie: one switch controls your fan(s)).

  • Exhaust (On/Off) + Aux = Your switch will act as a simulated on/off switch (to control AC Motors w/out lights only) and is installed in a multi-way setting (ie: two or more switches control your fan(s)) and you are using an Inovelli Aux/Add-On switch with your smart switch.

  • Ceiling (3-Speed) + Single = Your switch will control your fan speed (low, medium, high) and is installed in a single-pole setting (ie: one switch controls your fan(s)).

  • Ceiling (3-Speed) + Aux = Your switch will control your fan speed (low, medium, high) and is installed in a multi-way setting (ie: two or more switches control your fan(s)) and you are using an Inovelli Aux/Add-On switch with your smart switch.

Ok, let's begin:

  1. Open your SmartThings App and go to the, "Devices" tab

  2. Find your White Series Fan Switch and click on it

  3. Click on the three dots at the top right and select, "Settings"

  4. Click on, "1. Switch Mode" and then select the appropriate setting as referenced at the top of this section. Once selected, click, "OK".

  5. Click on the back arrow "<" and test out your switch

Advanced Feature Setup

This switch is packed with features and most of them come directly from this community. They've been debated back and forth, added to wishlists, and talked about over the course of 4+ years.

Notifications

Notifications are used when you want to have a visual cue on your LED bar notify you of a certain event. A few examples would be:

  • LED Bar changes purple if your garage door is left open past 9pm

  • LED Bar changes red if your front door is unlocked

  • LED Bar changes orange if a door is opened at night time

These notifications are accomplished by using, "Routines" within the SmartThings App.

For more information about Animated Notifications as well as some examples of how to set them up, please visit the following article: Setting Up Color Notifications (White Series) • SmartThings
