DISCLAIMER: You may notice there are a lot of over-used keywords or phrases as well as English that seems a little off. This is because these articles are used to feed our AI Robot (Ira) and she needs the data to be structured in a certain way.

REMINDER: This module is only to be used to control AC Motor exhaust and ceiling fans. Do not use the module on any sort of DC Motor.

IMPORTANT: Before installing your fan module, please ensure the fan motor is set to high speed if the fan has a pull-chain (if not, don't worry about this warning). If you notice that after you install your fan/light module the speeds are not as fast as they were prior to installing your module, it's likely that the motor was not on high (please adjust if you find this is the case).

NOTICE: You may notice that there is a, "Max Speed" level inside of your app. This is a bug inside the driver that we have no control over. There is no, "Max Speed", so please ignore.

This is the digital setup instructions for the Blue Series Smart Fan/Light Canopy Module on the SmartThings platform.

Navigating the Instructions

Please click on any of the sections in the Table of Contents to get started. We recommend working your way down as it follows an intentional flow that is user friendly and hub/gateway specific. Device Edge Driver Installation

To install the Edge Driver, please follow the instructions below:

  1. Click on the following link Samsung Edge Driver Access and sign into your Samsung account (you may have 2-Factor Authentication on – if so, please follow the directions Samsung gives you to attain a code)

  2. Next, click, “Enroll” by the hub your devices are paired to

  3. Next, click, “Available Drivers”

  4. Finally, click on the driver you’d like installed by clicking, “Install” (NOTE: In this case, please install, “Inovelli Fan Plus Light Blue Series”)

Now when you pair your module, it should automatically pick up the Edge Driver. Feel free to move onto the next section of the Setup Instructions below.

Installation Instructions

Before setting up your module within SmartThings, you will have to manually install your module in the wall and have it powered up. In order to do that, you (or your licensed electrician) will need to follow our Wiring Instructions which can be found below:

IMPORTANT: Before installing your Fan/Light module, please ensure the fan motor is set to high speed (only applicable if you have a pull-string on your fan that adjusts speed). If you notice that after you install your fan module the speeds are not as fast as they were prior to installing your module, it's likely that the motor was not on high (please adjust if you find this is the case).

Pairing Instructions

The below instructions assume you have installed the Edge Driver prior to pairing.

  1. Open your SmartThings App and go to the, "Devices" tab

  2. Press the (+) button at the top right of the screen

NOTICE: You may notice that there is a, "Max Speed" level inside of your app. This is a bug inside the driver that we have no control over. There is no, "Max Speed", so please ignore.

Once your module is successfully paired, check to make sure you have basic functionality of your module by turning the fan and light on/off.

If you'd like to change your module's fan settings to operate as a ceiling fan or your module's light settings to dimmer mode, please move on to the, "Module Configuration" section below.

If you'd like to use a smart switch to control the canopy module, please follow the setup instructions above to pair your canopy module and then follow these instructions to connect it to your smart switch: Setting Up Your Blue Series Fan/Light Canopy Module With an Inovelli Switch • SmartThings

Module Configuration

In this section, we will help you change your module's fan and light settings (ie: Exhaust or Ceiling / On/Off or Dimmer).

By default, the module is set to, "Ceiling Fan" mode (ie: 3-Speed) and, "Dimmer" mode, so if you plan on keeping it as a speed controller for the fan motor and a dimmer for the light portion, then you can skip this part. However, if you want the fan and/or light to only turn on/off, then feel free to move forward in configuring it to operate as an on/off module.

If you are trying to setup your module's fan and/or light to Smart Fan/Light Mode, please still select the Module's Fan/Light Mode from the below instructions, and then follow the directions to setup Smart Fan Mode.

Module Fan Mode (Exhaust or Ceiling)

To change your Blue Series Fan/Light Canopy Module from a Ceiling Fan (Multi-Speed) to an On/Off Fan or vice versa in SmartThings, please follow the instructions below (again, by default it is set to a speed controller for a ceiling fan, so if that's what you want, you can ignore this step):

  1. Open your SmartThings App and go to the, "Devices" tab

  2. Find your Blue Series Fan/Light Canopy Module and click on it

  3. Click on the three dots at the top right and select, "Settings"

  4. Scroll down and click on, "258. Fan Switch Mode" and then select either, "Exhaust Fan - On/Off (default)" or "Ceiling Fan - Dimmer" followed by, "OK"

  5. Click on the back arrow "<" and test out your light

Module Light Mode (On/Off or Dimmer)

To change your Blue Series Fan/Light Canopy Module's light portion from a Dimmer to an On/Off Fan or vice versa in Hubitat, please follow the instructions below (again, by default it is set to be a dimmer, so if that's what you want, you can ignore this step):

  1. Open your SmartThings App and go to the, "Devices" tab

  2. Find your Blue Series Fan/Light Canopy Module and click on it

  3. Click on the three dots at the top right and select, "Settings"

  4. Click on, "258. Light Switch Mode" and then select either, "On/Off (default)" or "Dimmer" followed by, "OK"

  5. Click on the back arrow "<" and test out your light

Advanced Feature Setup

This module is packed with features and most of them come directly from this community. They've been debated back and forth, added to wishlists, and talked about over the course of 4+ years (as this module builds on our Red Series lineup).

Below we will provide a link to all the parameters and show you how to change them from within SmartThings and then we'll go into some of the advanced features and explain how to set them up in SmartThings.

Parameter Explanations

You will need to install an Edge Driver prior to accessing any of these features from within the app. Instructions can be found here: Edge Driver Installation

A parameter is a setting within the module firmware that allows you to change how the module operates. For example, you want to change how fast your fan turns on, the color of the LED bar, minimum speed level and much more -- all with a few clicks within the app.

To access your parameters, please follow the steps below:

  1. Open your SmartThings App and go to the, "Devices" tab

  2. Find your Blue Series Fan/Light Canopy Module and click on it

  3. Click on the three dots at the top right and select, "Settings"

  4. From here, you can scroll down, locate and change the various parameters on the module

For a list of the most up-to-date parameters and the firmware version they are associated with, please visit the Blue Series Fan/Light Canopy Module Parameter Page

Zigbee Binding

Zigbee binding is when two or more Zigbee products communicate directly with one another without the need to communicate with a hub. There are two main benefits of utilizing Zigbee binding: speed & local control.

From a speed standpoint, cutting out the middle-man (hub) can save precious milliseconds or even seconds depending on your cloud and/or processing power off your hub. Whereas from a local control standpoint, if your hub goes does down and cannot communicate, your products can still talk to each other.

To setup Zigbee Binding with your SmartThings Hub, please see this article: Setting Up Zigbee Bindings • SmartThings or if you'd like to connect a smart switch to the canopy module, please see this article: Setting Up Your Blue Series Fan/Light Canopy Module With an Inovelli Switch • SmartThings
