Here is a list of notable changes and some steps to take if you are affected by them.
Firmware Updates May Change Device Settings
In some cases, a firmware update may cause some device settings to change or reset. For example, a switch configured for on/off mode may revert to dimmer mode after an update.
This can happen when underlying firmware changes modify how settings are stored internally. As data structures evolve, existing values in memory can shift, which may result in one setting overwriting another.
After any firmware update, we strongly recommend:
Reviewing all device configuration settings
Verifying switch mode, dimming behavior, and automations
Reapplying any custom preferences if needed
Doing a quick settings check after updating helps ensure everything continues working exactly as expected.
Mode Select Differences
Home Assistant Users
One notable change is an update to how Mode Select is handled on Matter switches. Mode selection now follows the Matter specification more strictly, which allows for more consistent behavior across ecosystems and improved platform support.
Because of these changes, some users may need to take a few additional steps after updating. This (temporarily) creates duplicate select devices.
Restart Home Assistant and the “old” copies will show up as Not Provided devices (greyed out, dead) entities. Go to entity tabs and filer on Domain = Select, Integration = Matter, Status = Not Provided and you should be able to bulk-select and delete those.
Google Home Users
When using Google Home with Matter, each Mode Select endpoint is exposed as a separate device. As a result, you may see several additional devices appear in your Google Home app after updating the firmware. This is expected behavior and is how Google Home represents Mode Select controls.
These additional devices can be used to change the switch’s configuration and settings.
To keep your main rooms uncluttered, we recommend moving these Mode Select devices to a different room (such as a utility or hidden room) within Google Home.
Binding Considerations After Updating Firmware (Advanced Home Assistant Users)
This firmware update includes fixes for several binding-related bugs, which required changes to the underlying binding implementation. Because of this, some bindings created prior to updating may no longer function correctly after the update.
This can affect:
Bindings between two Inovelli switches
Bindings between an Inovelli switch and Matter bulbs
What to Do If a Binding Stops Working
In some cases, simply deleting and recreating the binding on the Inovelli device may not fully resolve the issue. This is because Matter bindings are stored on all devices involved, not just the Inovelli switch.
If you experience issues with an existing binding after updating, try the following steps in order:
Delete the binding on all devices involved, not just the Inovelli switch
Reboot all devices that were part of the binding
Recreate the binding
If the binding still does not function correctly after these steps, the last resort may be a factory reset of one or more of the devices involved, followed by setting them up again and recreating the binding.
While this should only affect bindings created before the firmware update, we recommend keeping this in mind if you notice unexpected behavior after updating.
Factory Reset May Be Required
Due to substantial changes in this firmware release—including updates to the underlying SDK and expanded configuration options—some users may experience erratic behavior after updating. In certain cases, existing device settings may shift when new options are introduced.
If you notice unexpected or inconsistent behavior, performing a factory reset and re-adding the device to your smart home platform is recommended to ensure all settings are applied correctly.
Summary
This firmware release improves Matter compliance and platform compatibility by updating how Mode Select and other configuration options are handled. Because of these changes, users may see additional devices appear in platforms like Google Home, may need to reconfigure Mode Select settings, and in some cases may need to perform a factory reset to resolve erratic behavior caused by underlying SDK and configuration updates.
